From the Artist "For me, my art is all about the experience: the experience of making it, the experience of seeing it, and the experience of watching it evolve into something new. I try to avoid creating passive pieces that the viewer simply ‘looks’ at. I want them to have to decode or question what I have made for them. When I create a doodle, there is no set image in mind, what happens, happens, and I let that reflect in the finished work.
I use multiple layers with different mediums like clay and polymer, and print over and over and over, to take the viewer with me through the creating process. Each step is somehow featured, and each piece is not just a finished project, but a showcase for some of the ideas that came before. One doodle can take me in a thousand different directions, helping create something new each time I start a work. It is from this journey that my work as an artist continues to evolve." - Tamm Whitty |
About Tamara Whitty
Originally from Pennsylvania where she received a B.A. in Fine Arts/ Music History, and a B.M. and M.M in Vocal Performance at Syracuse University, Tamara Whitty moved to Michigan after graduation to form her own private voice studio. Once she had an established business under her belt, Tamm was finally able to devote serious time to her other life long interest: visual art.
Although Tamara’s full time pursuit of visual art didn’t officially begin until 2004, she has always had a strong passion for doodling. Since she was a child, Tamara would doodle on any blank surface she could get her hands on, and during her years at the Detroit Opera House she filled countless journals with intricate works. As she progressed, so did the doodles, moving from one medium to the next until a style uniquely her own began to form. Tamara’s work began to pick up momentum with her first solo show entitled “Evolution of a Doodle” in 2008 at Redwood Photography in Grosse Pointe. From there she has been featured in a number of different shows, both solo and collaborative, with five of her pieces being chosen to hang in the Manoogian mansion for the 2014 Governor's Collection. Tamara is now looking to expand her audience outside of the Michigan area with a new online store, a larger collection of boutique items such as jewelry, mugs, and tote bags, and a number of well placed commissions. As her music business thrives, Tamm is continuing her artwork, hoping to share her passion and creativity with the world. |
