Tamm Whitty, Artist, Sculptor, Vocalist

Through a lifetime of doodling, Tamm Whitty has created a variety of work filled with whimsical integrity.  Originally from Pennsylvania and trained as a classical singer, Tamm's eclectic interests and musical surroundings have inspired her unique designs.

It's all about the process

"My art is about process. It is about looking at things from a multitude of perspectives and distilling the experiences .

My eclectic interests and experiences as a singer, conductor, dancer, actress, cook and gardener all contribute to my visual art. I am constantly motivated by the music, words, concepts, images, and life around me.

My exhibitions seek to communicate what I find beautiful, challenging, and inspiring in this world and this life.

The “Evolutions of a Doodle” shows revealed how “doodling,” usually not valued, is essential to my process.
These journal entries are experiments through which images emerge in new combinations of color, shape and pattern.

Each doodle begins with a gesture-- a dot, a line, a spiral. From there, it develops as an improvisation-- structure providing freedom and each subsequent stroke of pen, tool, or brush chosen in relation to the whole.

These original doodles (gel pen on paper or canvas) inspire prints produced from hand carved “linoleum” blocks.

Through the process of transfer, choices are made and further
exploration occurs as the negative space of the block is carved.

In addition to printing on paper, fabric, or canvas, polymer clay impressions are made and, through them, the negative space rises to the fore.

These three dimensional prints are then painted with acrylics and other mediums.

Print-making allows me to experiment with many versions of an image or juxtapose them into something new. In each interpretation, the color, form, and texture are unique and often inspire more variations."

It all starts with a dot, a line and paper...
You'll find Artist, Tamm Whitty with her favorite gel pens and pad of black paper. She's not just doodling, she's journaling her self expression, her life impressions and connections of consciousness. Her experience, her study, her art evolves with each layer of a what starts as a dot, a line, a paper.

Each piece requires a unique approach, and the results range from large fine art canvases to gift items, such as cards, tote bags, ceramic tile, and jewelry.  All pieces are unique and handmade by the artist.  Certain works can be commissioned with different color variations to suit any decor.
